THE GATEWAY TO WRITING

THE GATEWAY TO WRITING

The Inspiration to write came accidentally. It was my summer visit to my native place in Shetgheri, in Karnataka State, a typical small village near the coast and a good base to explore the coastline, just a few kilo meters away from the town of Ankola , overlooking miles of fields and some mangroves not far away from Karwar, the district headquarters of Uttar Kannada an ideal place to relax and definitely worth going to.
We have been visiting our dear ones there whenever we had any leave, my husband being the only child of his parents. Sadly, my mother-in-law is no more. The house used to be buzzing with people, when she was around. The hospitality showered on one and all, even those passing by in front of the house. Our house used to be called a hotel. The fireplace in the kitchen was always lit with some or the other traditional delicacies being cooked.
Alas, since my mother-in-law’s demise, there are a very few visitors, My father-in-law would also love to have somebody or the other coming and paying him a visit, but, since he is dependent on my husband’s cousins( neighbors who have been studying and sleeping in our house since childhood), he would not want to trouble their wives with visitors. So, the reason for fewer visitors.
In the process of me narrating about the hospitality, etc, I forgot the main topic-Gateway to Writing. With no one around, time does not fly at all there. Kids come just for a week or so, as they are busy with their work. My husband gets up early in the morning and goes to the town, to meet his old friends at the Ankola bus depot.
So what do I do after all the cooking and cleaning is over. I sit to read. That’s how my journey into the world of books started. I was in the habit of reading since my teens, but that was reading mystery or romantic books viz. The Famous Five, Agatha Christie and none other than the Mills & Boon. I must have read all the Mills & Boon books available at that time.
So, the gates were open for reading and writing. Curiosity made me more creative. I just sat down and let my feelings flow and become golden words of expression straight from my heart. The writer in me was born. Whatever I had, just started filling the blank pages of my journal. It was an endless flow…………
I had heard somewhere that every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. The new and unexpected was happening. I had to get the word out to everyone. I didn’t know that things could change so soon. I became so absorbed in my hobby. But, I did not let my hobby affect my normal duties may it be at home or at work.
I’ve heard someone say that one never really learns much from hearing oneself talk.
I was suddenly aware of what I was seeing and hearing around me. I started observing the world around.
There is no doubt that the first ripple that the thoughts in my mind had created has now become a gigantic wave. I started creating a world exclusively for turning my dreams into words. This is just the beginning of a long journey.
